Why is Dagster being acquired by Prefect?
Prefect and Dagster have spent years solving similar problems for similar customers: helping teams run reliable data and ML pipelines at scale. Combining the two companies lets us bring together talent, technology, and experience to build a stronger company than either of us would be alone. We believe this is a good outcome for the product you depend on and for the team that built it.
What exactly is happening? Is Dagster being shut down?
No, Dagster is not being shut down. Prefect is acquiring Dagster's product, codebase, and customer relationships, along with a number of Dagster team members who are joining Prefect. Dagster will continue as a supported product.
When does the deal close, and when do changes take effect?
We expect the transaction to close in the coming weeks. We will follow up directly with any changes that affect you, and with clear timing, well before anything takes effect on your account.
What this means for the Dagster product
Will the Dagster product continue to exist?
Yes. Dagster will continue as a supported product. It is a core part of what Prefect is acquiring, and continuing to support it is part of why this transaction makes sense.
Will Dagster continue to be actively developed and supported?
Yes. Our focus is on stability and continuity for Dagster customers. The team supporting the product you use today continues to support it, and we are committed to keeping the platform reliable as we work through the transition.
Will my Dagster deployment keep working the same way it does today?
Yes. Nothing about how your Dagster deployment runs changes as a result of this announcement. There is no action required on your part.
Will Dagster eventually be merged into Prefect, or will the products stay separate?
We have no plans to merge Dagster into Prefect.. What we can tell you clearly is that there is no plan to discontinue Dagster, and that our near term priority is stability for current customers. We will communicate clearly and with plenty of notice if and when there is anything more concrete to share about product direction.
Will I be required to migrate to Prefect at some point?
No. We are not asking any Dagster customer to migrate to Prefect, and there is nothing you need to do as a result of this announcement.
Will Dagster's open source project continue?
Yes. We remain committed to Dagster's open source project and community, and this acquisition does not change that commitment.
Will Dagster+ (the commercial/cloud offering) continue to operate as it does today?
Yes. Dagster's commercial offering continues to operate as it does today. We will tell you directly if that ever changes, with clear notice ahead of time.
Should we continue evaluating or implementing Dagster?
Yes. We don't recommend delaying an evaluation or implementation because of this announcement. Dagster continues as a supported product, and our teams remain focused on helping customers successfully deploy and operate the platform. If you have questions specific to your evaluation or implementation, your account team is happy to discuss them.
Is Dagster still available for new customers?
Yes. Dagster remains available for new customers, and we continue to support new evaluations, implementations, and existing customers. Nothing about this announcement changes our ability to onboard and support organizations adopting Dagster today.
Impact on my account and contract
Will my pricing, contract terms, or renewal date change?
No. Your existing pricing, contract terms, and renewal date remain unchanged as a result of this announcement. If anything were to change down the line, we would communicate that to you directly and with advance notice.
Will my point of contact, account manager, or support change?
In many cases your existing point of contact remains the same. Where there are changes to account ownership as part of this transition, we will introduce you personally to your new contact so there is no gap in support.
Is there any service disruption or downtime expected because of this transition?
No. We do not expect any disruption to the Dagster platform or to the support you receive as a result of this announcement.
Do I need to take any action on my end right now?
No action is needed right now. We wanted you to hear this news directly from us, and we will reach out proactively if anything requires action on your part.

No. Our existing commitments to you around data security, privacy, and compliance remain in place and unchanged.
